Take a look at some of our latest electrical engineering projects, completed in the South East.

Gilbert & Stamper Ltd has been chosen time and time again to complete a range of electrical and data projects for homes, businesses and industrial enterprises throughout the South East area. Take a look at a handful of our most recent works, and get in touch today for a free initial consultation.

We have carried out numerous projects over our long history but most of the time have not kept many photos or information for marketing purposes. However, that to a degree has changed with all the social media platforms we have today. It should be said that some projects we are not permitted to advertise for confidentiality and security reasons. Some of our more recent projects that we can report on are as follows.

Fire alarm Systems

The installation of fire alarm systems used to be a normal part of an electricians work, however, when the systems became more complex and the separate BAFE registration was introduced many companies including us stopped installing them, and it became a specialist area of works.

We realized that not only did this mean that we were reliant on outside contractors, but that we were turning away potential work. We have therefore trained a number of our electricians to the appropriate regulations and also carried out manufacturers training. We have also achieved BAFE registration so can offer a fully compliant service.

Electric Vehicle charge points

With the ever-increasing number of electric vehicles (EV) on the road, we realized that this was an area of potential growth. We have had a number of our employees trained to both design and install EV points.

This enabled us to register on the government portal as approved installers so that our customers could take advantage of the incentives and grants available to assist with the cost of the installation.

Nurse call installations

Due to our close relationship with the medical sector, we are often contracted to install nurse call systems. We have installed a number of different systems over the years. Wandsworth Medical is currently the most common system.

We have therefore become competent installers of their systems and carry out installations on their behalf. We are working to become commissioning agents for them in the near future.

Kent College Swimming Pool

Currently, in its design stages, we are working with the client, main contractor and architects to move this project from Stage 2 through to Stage 6 completion. There are constraints with the capacity of gas available on site and so a hybrid heating system is being developed utilizing the spare electrical capacity of the site and efficient Air Source Heat pumps.

Careful consideration is being taken with the lighting to ensure the required anti-glare surfaces of the water are met using indirect lighting. The building is replacing an existing pool that was only two thirds the size and in a dilapidated condition.

Paddock Wood Community Centre

This exciting project involves a new local community centre and a two classroom nursery. The building will be offering photovoltaic panels to offset its energy requirements and electric vehicle charging stations.

Newton Place Surgery

A very welcomed extension to a local doctor’s surgery, comprising a two-storey building to the rear of the site with links through for staff and patients to transition. The new Fire Alarm system comprised modern base style sounders, while the existing centre had mechanical bells, so these were upgraded to ensure one common evacuation signal was received across the site.

Using our in house BAFE designers, we were able to easily overcome these specialist design elements, whilst still meeting the project budgets and time scales.

Benenden School

This project involved creating a new Music Block for the school comprising a large performance hall, small recital hall, practice rooms and classrooms. The scheme involved premium products installed on bespoke finished materials, providing a unique and practical environment.

Along with the usual disciplines, we included audio wiring for the specialist AV company and large-scale induction loops buried beneath timber floors catering for all needs. The installation did not come without its challenges, but with all the trades pulling together, the project managed to complete to the clients high expectations.

St Dunstan’s Church

We have a long history of carrying out works in both churches and cathedrals, of which St Dunstan’s Church is the latest. The works involved the complete rewire of the church in mineral insulated cable.

This type of cable is currently rarely used and the skill of installing and terminating it is diminishing, therefore we ensure that we take every opportunity to train our younger generation of engineers in the art!

Peters Village

Peters village is a new housing development site near Halling. Our contract was for the new village centre retail units and community centre with changing facilities for the local sports field.

It is a traditional building construction for which the electrical installation has also been traditional but with an emphasis on energy efficiency.

Rochester Airport

The project we undertook for Kier Construction at the airport was the refurbishment of the main hanger, the construction of hanger 5 and the MAPS hanger. Control of health and safety on the site was a major factor due to the environment and location of the works. We continue to work with Kier on other projects

Horder Healthcare

Horder Healthcare is another of the companies we have had a long-standing relationship with. It was approximately 30 years ago that we installed the standby generator set and new mains panel board at the Horder Centre. Since then, we have been involved with the construction of a number of extensions including; the theatre block, stores building, kitchen block and additional bedrooms.

We were also responsible for the electrical refurbishment of much of the site. When Horder Healthcare purchased the McIndoe Centre located in the grounds of East Grinstead Hospital, we were contracted to carry out the refurbishment of the electrical installation comprising; the theatre, X-ray, bedrooms and new outpatients area and the construction of the day case unit also new offices. We continue to provide assistance to the facilities department both in installation and design on both sites.

Larkfield Leisure Centre

Larkfield Leisure Centre comprises of a swimming pool as well as various other facilities and sports halls. Our project was to install new lighting within the leisure pool area which, due to the environment, used robust fittings which would withstand the corrosive environment and be accessible for maintenance.

Euro Tunnel Flexiplus lounge

This was another project the we carried out for Kier construction. The lounge is to provide business class experience prior to boarding trains across the channel, The building is very distinctive and can be seen some distance due to the way that it is lit up with LED lighting tapes.

There is a similar building in France. The installation was completed to match the French terminal whilst still complying with the British regulations.

Maidstone Hospital

As with the Tunbridge Wells hospital, we continue to work for the trust on numerous small to medium-sized projects. One major project that involved very close planning was changing over one of the main supply panel boards for the site.

We had to have teams working round the clock to complete the installation in the shortest possible time whilst having restrictions on when areas could be isolated due to the site being fully operational throughout.

Tunbridge Wells Hospital

We continue to work with both the trust and MITIE Facilities at the Tunbridge wells site. We have worked for the NHS trust for many years and were involved with the decommissioning of the old hospital to facilitate the construction of the new Hospital.

Through the pandemic in the past couple of years, we have been involved with two projects to increase capacity at the hospital. These involved the construction of two portable buildings in addition we were involved with upgrading of the WIFI installation throughout the site, and many smaller projects for which we work with MITIE Facilities to deliver.

Northfleet Girls Grammar School Extension

The project consisted of a new two-storey teaching building with associated external works. The building consists of general classroom teaching areas.

The ceiling construction is exposed with acoustic rafts, therefore, the services generally were exposed meaning careful consideration had to be given to ensure an unobtrusive and ascetically acceptable finish was achieved.

Tonbridge School Science Centre

The new science centre was completed in 2019 and this state-of-the-art centre, which is part new build and part refurbishment, was one of the most ambitious developments on the campus since it was first constructed in 1887.

The three-storey centre combines new classrooms and latest technology with many original architectural features. The centre puts science and technology at the very heart of the school. The Barton Science Centre, as it has been named, will also have a wider public benefit as a regional hub and centre of excellence.

Mitre House, London

We have recently completed a four-storey commercial refurbishment in the heart of the city, London. Creating an impressive, state-of-the-art open-plan office space ready to be occupied.
